READING MANIFESTOS

As part of the manifesto assignment, you will be reading existing manifestos in order to better understand what a manifesto is and the purpose of a manifesto. As you read these manifestos, think about what the artist or designer intended. What do you notice about the tone of the manifestos? Do you agree or disagree with what the artist/designer has to say? Are the manifestos just limited to artistic style or do they branch into other areas? Is the manifesto still relevant today? Does the manifesto remind you of anything else?

The manifestos are located to the right of this column. All manifestos are set-up as hidden web pages in this site in order to allow for the below activity. Due dates for completing the reading are listed. Additionally, we will briefly discuss these in class.

In order to facilitate your understanding of these manifestos and allow for discussion between you, your classmates, and myself, we will be using a program called Diigo. This program will allow you to highlight passages of interest and leave notes for your classmates or myself. This software will allow you to benefit from your classmates insights and comments. The software is free and you can sign-up at https://www.diigo.com. The above video also offer instructions on how to get started with the program. The group you will want to be part of and use when making annotations/comments is MCC ART 122. I have sent you an invitation to this group to your MCC email. Please be sure to use this group so everyone in the class can view your annotations comments. Please let me know if you have trouble accessing the group.
